Art has always been in the forefront of my life.
I am so fortunate to have the opportunity to spend my days creating & I appreciate that you’ve taken time to visit my site.
I was born and raised in Philadelphia, and from as far back as I can remember I have always had a passion for the arts. My earliest drawings were far from great but showed promise, and so I spent my young years enjoying art, totally unaware I was honing my skills for what would later become my life’s work. Having never been formally educated in art, following high school I began my career as a graphic artist in the advertising field. This career path evolved in 1988 when I chose to direct my creative energy into fine art and I’ve never looked back. It is challenging and every bit as rewarding.
Over the years I’ve tried a number of different mediums and chose to express my visions through finely detailed hand colored copperplate etchings and original paintings. I enjoy the technical challenge of the 15th century technique of etching because the medium allows me to become very detailed in my work through the purity of many drawn lines or shading. Every step in the etching process is a challenge so patience plays an important part in its creation, but I find the entire process very intriguing. I also love the more immediate and inspiring process of painting. During the course of my career as an artist, I’ve worked in Oils, watercolors and acrylics and each type of medium presents its own challenges and reveals different results. I also love exploring a variety of subject matter, and I’m particularly drawn to the serenity and elegance of nature and its many moods. So the type of paint I choose for a particular work depends upon the subject of the painting and the mood or effect I want to convey. Etching and painting are two very different mediums but I gravitate to them because they are so different.
My work has been exhibited in numerous galleries throughout the United States and abroad, select juried exhibitions and has been acquired for many private and corporate collections.
