ARTIST BIO PORTRAIT

Art has always been in the forefront of my life.
I am so fortunate to have the opportunity to spend my days creating & I appreciate that you’ve taken time to visit my site.

A native of Philadelphia, I can remember having a passion for the arts since childhood. My earliest artworks were far from great but showed promise, so I spent my young years enjoying art, totally unaware I was honing my skills for what would later become my life’s work. My career path began as a graphic artist in the advertising field and evolved in 1988 when I chose to direct my creative energy into fine art. I found my decision to become a full time self-employed artist to be challenging and every bit as rewarding and I’ve never looked back.

Over the years I’ve tried a number of different mediums and eventually found my favorites. I mainly express my visions through finely detailed hand colored copperplate etchings and original paintings including oils, watercolors and acrylics. I love how each of these mediums presents its own challenges and reveals different results. The technical challenges of the 15th century technique of etching allows me to become very detailed in my work through the purity of many drawn lines or shading. Every step in the etching process is challenging so patience plays an important part in its creation. I also love the more immediate and inspiring process of painting ~ it allows for a greater use of color than etching and requires a very different skillset. The etching and painting mediums couldn’t be more different, but I gravitate to them because they are so different.

As with my medium choices, I also love exploring a variety of subject matter. I’m particularly drawn to the serenity and elegance of nature and its many moods, but I’m also inspired by still life, figurative and architectural subject matter. The medium I choose for a particular work depends upon the subject of the painting and the mood or effect I want to convey. With so many choices, my life as an artist more than fills my days and is never boring. Sharing my art with others who appreciate and connect with it in some way is a very special privilege.

My work has been exhibited in numerous galleries throughout the United States and abroad, select juried exhibitions and has been acquired for many private and corporate collections.
