I have a massive amount of reference I use as inspiration for my paintings. But it’s very rare that I take a photo that I feel is worth painting in its entirety ~ I personally don’t see the point in just reproducing verbatim, what my lens has already captured. And even rarer, is a photo that is so perfectly composed and void of the extraneous distractions that “clutter” the landscape.

But this painting is an exception to my rule. Aside from using artistic license to make a few minor changes, this painting almost seems to be painting itself.  From the vantage point of my studio on the hill, I captured a magical moment in October when the sun was setting while illuminating a full moon on the rise. Given the majesty of the scene, I chose 18 x 44 as the size for this painting. When it is finished and if all goes well, I’m hoping I will at least come close to successfully re-creating Mother Nature’s beautiful gift.

Hello Everyone!

This year has been very productive for me in many ways.  I’ve enjoyed creating many new works and managed to give my website a long overdue face lift (or more like a total rebuild).  I’ve also added a StudioCC UPDATE blog page to the new website to introduce new works, share insights about how and why I create, and other info including upcoming exhibits & events.

In an age when everybody is tweeting, instagraming, facebooking and texting, the last thing the world needs is yet another word to read.  But if you have any interest in Art and the creative process, I hope you will find my StudioCC UPDATES interesting and informative.  Experience has shown me that Art collectors, or collectors of anything for that matter, enjoy learning the story behind a creation.  I personally find, that discovering the genesis of how or why something came to be, sometimes leads to a greater appreciation of it.

So in between time spent painting and doing other studio “stuff”, I look forward to sharing insights about my work and the ever-so-exciting world of being an artist.  Please feel free to send a comment or question my way if you find something particularly interesting!

Thank you so much for your continued interest,
